Sunday 8/6
We got up and started on North Rim Drive which is a one-way loop with amazing views of The Grand Canyon of YellowStone and its incredible waterfalls. We began at The Brink of the Lower Falls. Read more
It is a switchback trail 300 ft straight down. We arrived and had the area all to ourselves. You can literally reach over the rail at the brink and feel the mist from the waterfall. It was easy going down the trail, but I can admit I took a few breaks on the way up. Below was our route for today. We then went to Lookout Point. While there, Tim noticed a bridge at the bottom of the falls, and we learned that is called Red Rock Point Trail. Tim took off down, while I stayed up at Lookout Point. He got some amazing photos and video from down there at the base of the Lower Falls. Of all the trails on this trip, this one wore Tim out pretty good on the way back up. We then continued down the road to The Grand View, and then out to Inspiration Point. We we finished the loop and then went back down the same road past the North Rim road to the South Rim Road. Here we saw many view of the Upper Falls, hiked from the Upper Falls out to Artist Point and got some great photos along the way. Since they closed Uncle Tom’s Trail (328 metal steps down to the Falls), Tim wanted to get as close as we could so he could see them. Unfortunately it was barricaded about 40 yards from the top of the stairs. After our feel of The Grand Canyon of YellowStone, we continued up the east side of the upper loop and stopped by Tower Falls and Calcite Springs and into Lamar Valley. We exited though the Beartooth Highway and headed into Montana. We arrived into Columbus, Montana around 430p and caught up with all the guys around the firepit. We had steaks for dinner which the owners, Jerry and Sue left in the freezer for us. Fishing early at 7a 2moro.
