Wednesday (5/23)
We traveled to London via Stratford and Oxford today. We arrived first at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage right before lunch. We toured inside the cottage and then had lunch at Hathaway Tea Rooms. Next we went to William Shakespear’s birthplace. I got some pictures in front of his childhood home, which looked like a house in the Elizabethan period. Read more
The adjoining Shakespeare Tree Garden is planted with trees and flowers mentioned in many of Shakespeare’s plays. We then headed into London for dinner. Pretty good pizza place, but I can’t remember the name of the place.
Thursday (5/24)
We went into London for a guided tour of the city. We visited Buckingham Palace (video-the official London residence of Queen Elizabeth II). We missed the changing of the guard though as it’s seasonal. We saw Big Ben, the clock tower with a 14-ton bell (it was under construction though). Then Westminster Abbey, where almost every English king and queen since William the Conqueror has been crowned. The really cool thing was we were there when the Order of the Bath Installation was taking place with the Prince of Wales. Then onto the House of Parliament, Tower Bridge, Hyde Park, and then St. Paul’s Cathedral and Piccadilly Circus. We had dinner at the London Hard Rock Café, the very first one ever. Food was not very good, but cool place anyways. This was the night my roommate and I were “notified”.
