Today supports the idea that no matter how much planning you do, things just happen. The plan was for us to hike the 3 1/2 -4 mile round trip hike to see Devil’s Bridge northwest of Sedona, Arizona. We ended up doing 9 miles roundtrip. Read more
After following the many reviews I found, we parked our car where we believed to be outside of the trailhead for Mescal Trail. The Mescal Trail would then intersect with the Chuckwagon train and that would lead us to Dry Canyon 4×4 parking lot where we would go the remaining 1 mile to the top of Devil’s Bridge. As you can read into this, that wasn’t the case.
Somehow we parked our car further up and must have started on the wrong trail from the beginning.. although it was clearly marked Chuckwagon Trail. A little way into the hike, I ran into a local who lives close by in Seven Canyons. Even though he initially stated we were on the wrong trail, when I showed him the map I was going off of, he said he may have been confused. In retrospect, we should have just turned around at that point, but we didn’t. However, the trail itself wasn’t that strenuous and we saw sights of Sedona that few get to see. It was a pretty awesome mistake all things considered.
Finally we arrived at the 4×4 parking lot and started our way to the bridge. Tessa and I were the only ones that braved the rest of the hike to the bridge. It was brutal!! But we ending up making it to the top and getting some awesome photos of the experience. I was speaking with another couple at he top of the bridge and his comment was “everything I read about this hike was a lie”. That made me feel so much better!.
After the hike, we drove and had a nice little lunch at The Hudson in Sedona. Tessa and I just hung out afterwards while the others went shopping. On the way back to Mesa, we stopped by the Montezuma Castle but missed it closing by about 25 minutes.
All in all, it was a great day trip to Sedona, and highly recommended. Enjoy the photos!
