It was our first day without a vehicle, so we took the light rail from Seatac station to the Westgate station. We walked the remaining short distance to Seattle’s Famous Space Needle (video). We took a few pics and then boarded the elevator to the top of the Space Needle. Read more
The skies were clear so we could see for miles and miles. We walked around the outside a few tims to take in the views. The outer section actually rotates one full rotation per hour using only a 1hp motor. We then explored the restaurant, took several more pics, and then headed back down.
It was almost time for our reservation at the Chihuly Garden Exhibit. Chihuly is a famous glass blower and artist. The glass was so cool. There are several pics below where you can see what I mean. After walking through the indoor and outdoor exhibit, we went into the theatre to learn more about the exhibit and also to watch him blow glass.
We then toured around Seattle Center some more. The kids played on a huge jungle gym and slide. They dared mom and I to do it so we did. Trev said afterwards he really thought I wouldn’t make it to the top and go down the huge slide. Tay said I am a boy in a man’s body. There is a lot of truth to that. Mom and I aren’t that old yet…
Afterwards we headed over to the Pike Place Market, about 8 blocks away. It was crazy packed with tons of people. Open market for fresh fish, gift shops, restaurants. You name it, it was there. The kids got to witness some of the original “grunge” rockers from Seattle. Their pic is below.
Since we had a few hours to kill, we decided to go to the University of Washington station and got off and walked the campus for a few hours. They have an open area leading to the campus that is called Rainier Vista. Apparently on a really clear day you can see Mt Rainier. We couldn’t see that today, but still stunning view. I was so tired from the walk, I dropped down on the grass area. It was like 6″ thick of plush grass. I could have fallen asleep.
We got back on the light rail, and headed back to Sea-Tac station. The hotel was nice enough to bring our luggage to us at the airport. We had some bourbon chicken in the food court and headed to our red-eye flight back home.
Another incredible journey for the McCracken family. Check out the stats here.
