Below was our route for today.
We left Pagosa Springs, CO this morning to meet our friends, Jonathan & Kristi Hayes at Great Sand Dunes National Park. They have a home up near Colorado Springs, and drove down to spend the day with us. We arrived at the park and it looked like a huge beach at the base of the mountain. There was a small little creek that ran in front of it that the kids were able to play in to cool off. We all proceeded up the mountain and the kids had fun rolling down the various hills. Read more
As we really started to climb the mountain, Jonathan offered for he and I to take the littlest ones back to the creek to play. The rest of them continued up the sand mountain. Heather, Kristi, Taylor and Jillian were the only ones to make it to the top, not sure what happened to Trevor and Jaxson.
After they came down from the top, the rest of the kids (and Adults) played in the creek for a little bit. We then left the Dunes and began the drive up north to the Hayes’s ranch. For those of you who are interested here are the directions:
- Drive North til you see a dirt road.
- Turn right on the dirt road
- You will then come to a fork in the road showing the entrance to a private drive.
- Turn right in that entrance and drive about a mile
- When you see a mountain lion on the left, there will be another fork in the road.
- Turn left at that fork and drive about another 1/4 mile and you will enter the ranch..
We had a great night hanging out with friends and turned in for the evening. We need to get up early tomorrow to go White Water Rafting.

30 Jun 2010That sand dune mountain is unbelievable! I had no idea that place even existed in the US – much to see and do in this great land! Looks like you had fun with the Hayes.
