Well as usual, this was a long day. I turned in last night at 12:30a, and got up at 3:00a to head to the Columbus airport. I guess I should be grateful I got some sleep as Heather had to finish charting so she didn’t sleep at all prior to leaving for the airport. The temperature was 34 degrees, which was borderline on ice being on the bridges. Since the group flew at different airports/times this year, our first group photos will be in Punta Cana. We made it to CMH in plenty of time, checked in, and grabbed a Donato’s personal pizza… only thing in the airport open that early. The flight to ATL was about half full so we were ble to spread out and Heather and I took a row of 3 seats each and immediately fell asleep. We arrived into ATL ontime and took off to Punta Cana on time. During my flight, I sat in the exit row with a really nice couple from Houston, George and Arienne (pronounced R-E-N). They have 3 kids as well and their oldest son is in Nicaragua with Doctors without borders. Their daughter is a junior in high school, and the I think the other one’s age is in betwwen.
We arrived into Punta Cana and breezed through customs, but when we came out of the customs area, NOBODY was there. Since the other flights got in an hour before us, this made no sense. I had prepaid for a private bus service to take us all to the resort. I inquired with the company, and they told me that the other group took a taxi to the resort. Once again, this still made no sense, so I had the driver take me over to the other terminal and walked around and saw nobody. I have no way to communicate with the others, so Heather and I then decided we would hop on the bus and head to the resort. On the way, I texted Todd and learned that only 4 of the 6 took the taxi and Neil/Ginger were still at the airport. The service sent another van for them and all was good. I later found out that Laura/Bridget hadn’t eaten and didn’t want to wait around. Understandable, just created a nasty snag in transportation…
We arrived at the resort, checked in, and headed to our room. We unpacked a bit and then explored the property. We then ran into Michael/Laura and then the others shortly thereafter. We were right on the beach and it was really windy (video). So we decided to head up and have a snack. I had a panini sandwich and Heather had some nachos. After our snack, we headed back to our room for a nap, as we really needed one.
After the nap, we got dressed and met the rest of the group at a buffet named, Spoon. The food was really good, and the dessert, oh my the amount of dessert. After dinner, we all watched a gymnastic show, but it was too cold to stay for the duration so we headed back to the room and turned in for the evening.
