No major driving today.
We got started early and headed over to Ground Zero and the reflection pools for the North & South Tower. On our walk to the Tour Bus, we passed our favorite Bryant Park. This is such a neat little place. Of all the parks in NYC – Central, George Washington, Madison Square, etc., this one is really cool. Read more
There is a Grill, they have movie night, free concerts, and was just a favorite for all of us.
On the way to Ground Zero, Trevor was desiring Dunkin Donuts so we stopped to get a quick bite and then headed over to the 911 Memorial. With a $10 donation we got bracelets for the kids to have as mementos of the visit. I had first visited Ground Zero back in 2002, and several times since then. The progression of that initial catastrophe is amazing to have seen. They are still working on a visitor center that is not yet completed. Maybe next trip…
We then headed over the the Financial District and Wall St. We needed to take a pitstop (guess who), so we ended up in the Winter Garden Building. It turned out to be really neat and we sat on the back deck overlooking a harbor and had lunch. We didn’t have this place on our plan, but it was really cool.
We waked down through Battery Park, and had trouble finding our next bus stop. Ultimately we found it, and went to Rockefeller Center. It was early afternoon now and we had a decision to make as to whether we left NYC now before Rush Hour, or leave late after Rush Hour. We decided that Trev and I were going to take a 90 minute cruise on the Hudson Bay, and let the girls go shopping. I will do anything to avoid shopping with those girls.
The girls had a great time shopping and visiting Central Park & FAO Schwartz, and Trev and I enjoyed the cruise. We ended up leaving the city around 7:30, and by then the George Washington Bridge wasn’t too bad. We arrived in Rye, NY, and then headed out to a local diner to grab a bite and then turned in. Tomorrow we sleep in. We have had a whirlwind past few days… Enjoy all the photos.
