I got in late on Wednesday night because I attended the Mystery Dinner Theatre with Trevor’s J-Term class. It was pretty cool. The person that committed the crime was the last person we would have thought of. As usual on these big trips, I don’t sleep much before the trip because we have to get up so early. Read more
Heather and I got up and at it pretty early and met the group at the CVG airport. The group is Todd & Bridget (aka Professor Roy & Mary Ann), Greg & Judy McDaniel (aka Skip & Minnie), Neil Kahle & Ginger Hineline (aka Thurston & Lubby {Lovey}, and we are Gilligan & Ginger, or Gil & Gin.
The group was organized primarily by the Wichmann’s. They know Greg & Judy through 7th grade sports, know Ginger as she coaches the kids in volleyball, and Neil is Ginger’s boyfriend from Lexington, KY.
When we arrived at our gate, we saw the parents of Taylor’s soccer teammate MJ. They were headed to Atlantis. They were nice enough to take a group pic and Todd posted on Facebook. We then immediately got a comment from General Gettys that said he and Norine are at gate b10 which was across the isle from us. General and I worked together in the 90’s at MDI. He and Norine came over to say hey and said they were headed to Ocala for the week. How funny that a real time FB post by Todd would get that response…
The trip to our layover at Atlanta was uneventful. In Atlanta, we had a bit of PF Chang’s and Ginger broke out her book “4000 questions to ask to get to know someone”. Pretty hilarious stuff.
Arrived in Montego Bay (video) in the afternoon, and then took the short drive over to the Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort & Private Island.. They put us in a waiting area with bar and snacks while they upgraded our rooms. They bumped Heather and I up to the Honeymoon Suite, with full bar and 24 hour room service. We are going to be spoiled this week. Greg & Judy got upgraded to the biggest suite in the newest building. You think that would be great, right? Keep reading.
Soon after we all got situated in our room and then we all broke off individually to explore the resort. Heather and I then ran into Neil & Ginger. We grabbed a few cocktails and Neil and I played a bit of the stand up chess. Then Wick & Bridget joined us and we all headed over to play some pool. Greg & Judy arrived shortly thereafter.
We then ate dinner at The Regency Restaurant and enjoyed a nice meal overlooking the beach. The views are amazing here. I had the steak, and Heather had a fish dish. We then all hung out at the fire pit and played “I never”. The group learned more about each other than we anticipated.
The Mariner Seaside Grill then opened so we tried literally everything on the menu – cheeseburger, chili dog, spicy fries, onion rings. quesadillas, panini, grilled cheese, Jamaican jerk chicken, etc. We then all waddled back to our rooms and turned in for the evening.
