Below was our route for today.
We woke up this morning and spent another few hours visiting the various vistas of the Grand Canyon. I bought a cd-rom which allows a 360 degree look at the canyon. I will post to the site later in the week if I am able. Read more
We left the Canyon and drove through the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico heading towards 4 Corners Monument. This is some real poverty there. We stopped by a few of the stores and picked up some souvenirs, and then grabbed a quick bite in Cameron, AZ.
We finally arrive at 4 Corners, and you will never believe that it was CLOSED. Yes, we truly are the Griswolds. I was looking for a moose to punch as if I was at Wally World in National Lampoon’s Vacation. It was too funny. You will see the picture of the gate below.
We then proceeded towards Durango, Colorado, which was going to be our stop for the evening. However, we passed a sign for Mesa Verde National Park around 6:30 and thought…. another National Park let’s take 15 minutes to check it out. Well what we learned was we had to drive 30 miles into the mountain just to see anything. ( I will post a video of the drive tomorrow). We ended up leaving the park a little before 9P. Then ended up driving til 11P to the town of Pagosa Springs, CO. (a little further than Durango.
The Park was well worth the stop. You will love the pictures below of the Pueblo’s that are built right into the mountain. I guess that is the beauty of a trip like this. You can stop at unplanned stops and realize some really cool things. I am glad we stopped.
More tomorrow…

28 Jun 2010Good Morning. Mesa Verde is truly cool. Have been there with our kids several times and it is still one they remember…a fave. Glad you got to see it. I bet it has been 50 years since the four corners monument has been closed…what dumb luck. Sorry about that. It is amazing to consider the miles you have traversed. Colorado will hopefully bring some relief from the heat. No relief yet here…beasty. Nancy and I went to two outside weddings over the weekend and I am just about ready to head to the highest mountain I can find and stay there for a few days. Bet you feel the same and now you are near one so go for it. Blessings, Randy.

26 Jun 2010OK so i’ve been sitting here for the past 1 1/2 hours looking at your COOOL entries from the beginning as I just became savy enough to figure out how to get notified when you do entries instead of having to hunt forit each time 🙂 you know me and techno things. WAY COOL though!!!!! i remember a trip (just for a week though) out west WY, CO, Yellowstone, no grand canyon or dam as they were way off the beaten path. Looks like an awesome trip but my butt hurts just after an hour or so i cna’t imagine traveling in the van all that way. i guess your seats must be way more comfy than where i am sitting. So are you guys staying in hotels along the way or camping or sleepin in the van?!?!?!? Vegas looked way cool!!! So did you have “the talk” after some of the sights there? Last time we were i vegas kristopher was maybe almost 2. not too many questions then :). Can’t wait for more entries and glad Trevor is better. Stay safe – we miss you guys…..

26 Jun 2010OMG last night was another funny dinner 🙂 missed you guys but we did talk about some of the funny things you have posted! we read fortune cookies and added the “in bed” at the end and the fortunes could not have been more perfect for that. LOTS of laughing!!!!!! Todd texted in the middle of all of this and so Kevin gave Todd his own fortune. Keep in mind he is fly fishing out in the middle of nowhere ….

25 Jun 2010so i finally had time to go through all of the pictures. WOW!!! i am so happy for you guys. what an experience of a lifetime. i have to say i was a bit scared during the buffalo pictures and could hear Heather screaming quietly and was amazed at the Canyon pictures. Everyone looks as though they are having a wonderful time. the kids got the post card today, thank you for sending it, they miss you all terribly. the giant can of beans or whatever it was at the utah walmart was pretty impressive as well. glad i am not mormon, not enough storage space for a disaster here in Springfield! thank you for sharing your photos and a part of your life that will be a lasting memory for all of you. still mad we’re not going to the beach together this year 🙁 take care, travel safe, and eat lots of ice cream along the way – i know that will be hard for all of you! miss you guys ~ les

25 Jun 2010Wow! What a great big place!! If Taylor is going to take great pictures she may want to stand in front of everyone instead of behind. Nice try, Taylor. You all look great. Was it really hot there? Heather, did you learn the hat idea from Aunt Catherine? Thanks for the update. Be careful. p.s. Mom came home today. She seems to be doing well.
