Below was our route for today.
We left for Key West around 8:15a this morning. We stopped on Islamorada Island at Bob’s Bunz Bakery. The pastries were outstanding, really fresh. Read more
We then continued on out to “Mile Marker 0”. On the way we traveled over the Seven Mile Bridge which was used for the limo scene in the movie, True Lies.
We arrived at Key West and took the south route on A1A. towards Smather’s Beach. We saw the Tiki Hut for the Parasailing, and I stopped and reserved a time for Trevor and Taylor. Since parking is horrible on the island, I dropped Heather and Tess off at the famous Duval Street (famous for the Pub Crawl – just not this early in the day). They walked around a bit and toured the shops.
The older kids and I headed back to the beach to board our boat. I was going along only as an observer ($10). When we got out to the boat with Miles and Capt Bert, he asked the weight of Trevor and Taylor. He then looked at me and said, “it’s your lucky day, you are going up in a triple with your kids. It was a surprise to me, but I was happy to go along, since I had done it before.
The kids and I had a great time Parasailing on Key West. It was only us and a young couple from Cleveland, so Bert and Miles kept us out there way longer than normal. It was so cool.
We left Smather’s Beach and met back up with Heather and Tess across from the Hard Rock Cafe on Duval Street. Tess was getting her hair beaded right across the street. We got some additional souvenirs and decided it was time for lunch.
Heather had heard about Garbo’s which was a mobile food cart off of Greene Street. We all headed over there so she could get the famous fish tacos. She said they were great. Since the rest of us needed to eat too, we walked over to the Sunset Pier and had a nice lunch at the restaurant at the end of the Pier.
Then the rain came!. It wasn’t a typical “Florida shower”, it was pouring down, flooding the streets and everything. We got drenched!. We would have had a picture of it, but didn’t want to take a chance of ruining the camera.
We then headed back to Key Largo for the night. Tomorrow we snorkel bright and early at John Pennekamp Underwater Park…
