Above is our final route. We got up around 8a this morning to get ready for our trip to John Pennekamp Coral Reef Underwater Park. We have reservations at 9a to snorkel the 3rd largest living coral reef in the country. Read more
We arrived at the park and boarded the Sea Voyage boat for the 35 minute ride out to the spot. When we arrived, everybody got in and started enjoying the water…. except Tess!! She was great at snorkeling in the pool, but the waves and saltwater are a whole different thing. Heather and the bigger kids got to enjoy swimming while I was left to climb up and down the boat ladder into the water more than a half a dozen times. Along with this, I was at the mercy of the sea by the ladder when I was actually in the water, so by the end I was not feeling my best.
However, mom and the bigger kids had a great time. They were able to swim over and see the “Christ of the Deep”. It is about 17 ft down and is a 7′ bronze statue that was donated many years ago by the italians. Trevor was even able to dive down and touch its hand.
Back near the boat, Tess was being a SERIOUS pill. She was not on her best behavior by any means. Luckily, mom calmed her down and she slept the ride back to the dock.
We then made the decision to begin the 23 hr drive back to Cincinnati. We took the east route up through Florida and ended up stopping at the Florida/Georgia border in Kingsland, GA to rest for the remaining trip home tomorrow.
I HAVE MORE PICS FOR THE SLIDESHOW BELOW THAT WILL BE POSTED AFTER THE UNDERWATER CAMERA FILM IS DEVELOPED LATER THIS WEEK.
