Below was our route for today.
We woke up this morning in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. What a neat little town. We had breakfast at The Bunnery, but I was upset because they were already sold out of their popular biscuits and sausage gravy. Maybe next time I will get out of bed earlier. Considering I have driven over 2,100 miles already, Heather and the kids let me sleep in a little this morning. The rest was needed. Read more
After leaving Jackson, we took a 2 hour drive through The Teton National Park. The views in this part of the country are absolutely amazing. Nothing like this in Cincy… Then we headed up to YellowStone National Park. Our first stop was Old Faithful. You will see pictures and video below, but understand during that time it was SNOWING, and the wind was blowing really hard. Temperature was in low 30’s, kinda different from the 81 degrees we were enjoying less than 24 hours ago.
We then went to The Midway Geyser Basin and walked around a bit. There are some cool pictures below of the hot thermals (video). However trying to get a good photo is like taking your camera into a steam bath and trying to photograph the showerhead… not a simple task. We did our best.
Since we got a late start, we wanted to grab a quick dinner and then do the 5 mile trail to Fairy Falls. However we got about 3/4 mile into it, saw a few large Bison, and figured that walking back in the dark (wo a flashlight) probably wasn’t the best idea.
We are getting started tomorrow at 7a. Yes, 7a, you all know I don’t do mornings well. However the best time to see the wildlife is the morning and early evening. We saw plenty tonight on our way back from Fairy Falls.
More tomorrow…

21 Jun 2010Hey Gang…oh, how my heart panged for Jackson Hole and Yellowstone…will be there just after the 4th of July myself. Got your phone message today. I had dropped my phone one to many times last week and it became useless. Just now got a new one today. Voice mail showed you called…sorry about that. Would have definitely suggested the Bunnery so you hit a good one. I grew up just past the airport. If you remember being on the flats going North…the road just after the end of the runway is where we turn in. We are about two miles down that road…it drops off into the Snake River Valley about a mile in. In winter, that flats area stays about 6 feet deep in show. Used to get my snow machine up to 70 miles an hour each day to reach my car parked at the highway. Fun memories. I am hugely impressed with your hikes. That high altitude hikin is tough. Kudos to the kids and to mom and dad. Wish I could be with you. God Bless. Randy

17 Jun 2010Now you’re going to some of my favorite parts of the world – Teton Mountains and surrounding Yellowstone Park. Once again you should be fishing, but I forgive you. The three peaks of the Teton Mountains were named for the french word for “Teton.” Do you know what it means? Look it upÖ I’m enjoying reading your daily adventures!

17 Jun 2010Hi It is so nice reading all about where you are and the things you are seeing. The pictures are great of you, Heather, and the kids too. I THINK I am enjoying them more because you write about where you are and then see the pictures. It is really great, like I am traveling right along with you. lOVE, MOM
