Wednesday 6/10
We were supposed to leave yesterday but the forecast called for severe thunderstorms and possible tornados, so we decided since we were camping, to back up our trip a day. We got up early Wednesday and were gone by 6:45a and arrived into the National Park area around 10a local time (we gained an hour). Read more
Our first stop was West Beach, and there were very few people there in the morning. We walked around a bit and then decided to hike the Succession Trail and then head over to our campsite and setup.
We stayed in the Mather Loop lot 25 and it was a perfect setup. Many trees that provided great shade and the bathhouse was a short walk away. After setting up camp, we made a fire and had grilled hot dogs for lunch with s’mores as dessert.
We all decided to take a power nap and then we headed over to Michigan City and Beverly Shores. Michigan City is said to be the Hamptons for the Chicagoans. Oprah has a house there as well. After exploring a bit, we decided to get some ice cream at Bubbles before driving back and checking out Kamil Beach.
We went back to camp and had pulled pork and hash browns on the grill, and then went back to Kamil beach for a windy sunset on the beach.
