Below was our route for today.
Heather here again. I am blogging again tonight so Trent can take a break.
Got up and had some breakfast. We headed east toward Hot Springs Arkansas. Still windy. No rain so far, yeah. Trent still at the wheel. Arrived into Hot Springs after a curvy drive into town about 20 miles off highway. Cute little town with the National park right in the town. Read more
This is very different from a lot of the parks we’ve been to. There is no fee to visit this park. The street is lined with bathhouses that were built in the 1800s. The visitors center for the park was actually in one of the bathhouses, the Fordyces.
We watched a video and lecture about the Hot Springs and the history of the area. We toured the bath house and stepped out back to sample the water…still warm but had been cooled off from the 104 temperature that the water is when it bubbles up from below ground. (Trent explain). Taylor wasn’t feeling well so she and Heather sat out the 30 minute hike up the mountain to the observation tower. Trent said he was out of shape so we drove up to pick them up. See picks below although can see how steep the incline was.
Now we were off to Beale St. in Memphis. Trent had planned a quick stop in Little Rock to see central high. The kids were excited to check it out as had read about and watched videos about the Little Rock 9. It actually is a national historic site through the national park service and has a great visitors center. The school is still a working school today, but they happened to be on Spring Break.
