No major driving today.
We got up this morning and took the short drive to Hoover Dam. What a marvelous man-made structure. Even though it is quite impressive, I have to vent a little about the fees. They charge $7 just to park, and practically route you to where you have to pay to park, and then $11/person just to ENTER the Visitor Center. Read more
Typically a visitor center is meant to show you the options on how you can spend your money, not here. We spent almost $50 for a 1 1/2 hour visit. To top things off, the elevators down to the power plant 700 ft below were not working that day. OK enough of that. It was pretty impressive though, the pictures below will portray that.
We decided to have lunch at a quaint little town called Boulder City which is about 5 minutes from the Dam. If you know your history, the Hoover Dam was the Boulder dam initially and later renamed for President Hoover. I think the place was called the Pit Stop. We wanted Mel’s Diner, I was anxious to talk to Flo and Alice, but it was closed in preparation for dinner. On our drive back to Las Vegas, the thermometer read 108 DEGREES. Man it was hot!!
We got back to Vegas and toured the rest of the resorts on the strip. (trying to stay on the air conditioned skywalks). The kids have really gotten a view into a different lifestyle here. We had a lot of explaining to do. They are at the age of MANY questions.
We leave for the Grand Canyon tomorrow….

24 Jun 2010Vegas, what a dream land for adults & kids alike. Do the kids think they are on another plant? Trent, you and Heather are giving your kids a life time of memories. They will be talking about this to thier kids. Continue to have fun, be safe and make those wonderful memories, that will be family stories forever. Love Judy & Sam.
