Below was our route for today.
We headed out at 5:30a this morning towards Pennsylvania and arrived at the Flight 93 Memorial around 11:15a. It was a peaceful drive until we hit Wheeling WV, and the rain started to come down. We received about 5 or 6 alerts on our iPhones for a flash flood in our area. Read more
I reminded Heather that when we started Part I I of our journey a few years back, it rained all the way through Iowa, and S. Dakota. The rain ceased a bit when we arrived at the Flight 93 Memorial, but on our walk to the actual monument, it began to come down pretty strong again. The monument was off the path quite a bit, and was still being developed. The only place to shield us from the rain was the visitor center, and it was only about 500 sq ft..
We then headed to Gettysburg and arrived there shortly after 3p. That is a pretty amazing place. The pictures below don’t do it justice. The significance of that place, and the full story was amazing to hear. (I wish I hadn’t slept through that history section in High School.) I have never been a history buff, but the strategies deployed in the War between the Union and the Confederates is truly amazing. Imaging what they could have done with today’s technology
I have now been up 17 straight hours, so I will finish this up and post tomorrow morning. We are staying in Horsham, PA just north of Philly. We head to Philly tomorrow.
On our way to Flight 93, we drove on the Lincoln Hwy. It happens to be our country’s first paved transcontinental highway and runs from San Francisco to New York City.
