Below was our route for today.
Today we leave the ship. We got up around 7a, and then headed to breakfast. Afterwards we went back to get our carry-on luggage and went to the Coral Theater to wait on our number to be called. Actually we were scheduled to leave at 845a, but were able to leave at 815a. Read more
We quickly went through customs and was in a taxi within 20 minutes or so back to our hotel. I then had the taxi drop me off at a rental car place. This is where the fun began…
Heather and I watch The Amazing Race and I got to experience it first hand today. When heading back to the hotel to pick up the family, I got lost. After driving around I ended up at a sorta military checkpoint. I did a u-turn and ultimately found a small gas station. Although PR is a USA territory, few people actually speak English. Using my arsenal of Spanish speaking skills, I was able to ask how to get back to my hotel.
When I arrived at the hotel, I picked up the family and headed to El Yunque. PR has several round abouts so we quickly got lost once again. After driving a bit, wouldn’t you know we ended back up at my familiar military checkpoint. Since I knew how to get to the hotel, we headed back to where we started and began again. This time we made the turn and off we went.
About 45 min later we arrived at El Yunque. When we arrived, Tay wasn’t feeling well and it got progressively worse. So much that she spent 20 minutes or so as we contemplated going to a Children’s Hospital back in San Juan. The primary issue is that one of her eyes was completely dilated. We are glad we noticed it at the beginning, because if it was at the end of the day, we would have thought she got stung or bit by something in the forest and having a bad allergic reaction. She eventually began to feel better and took a nap. Mom stayed with her as Trev, Tess and I took an hour trolley ride through the rainforest
We then all drove pass la Coco Falls and up to Palo Colorado. We took the tough hike down to la Mina Falls. Trev got in the water under the waterfall for a classic pic, but it was too cold for Tay. We then went up to Yocahu Observation tower where I saw a rainbow.
Since it was getting late, we headed to the airport to drop off the rental and then took a taxi back to the hotel. The rental place closed a 4p, so the airport alowed us more time since it was open 24 hrs.
We got back to hotel and watched March Madness and then turned in. Tomorrow we go back to the mainland USA.
