We boarded a bus and drove an hour or so to a little town in Ireland. We all walked around a bit, and got a bite to eat. We spent most of the day as free time so Jackson Myers and I headed over to a local café. I had a Nutella Crepe which was really good We then checked into the Ibis Dublin. After check-in, we then drove into the city of Dublin and had a mini tour of the city and some more free time. I got my Dublin hat. We then had dinner at Oscar’s and headed back to hotel for the night.
Monday (5/21)
We got up and had some breakfast at the hotel since we had a full day of sightseeing today. We began our day with a trip to Phoenix Park, and then traveled along the River Laffey on our way to the !2th century, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the largest in Ireland. St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland in the 5th century. We also went by the park where he baptized many of the people who converted to Christianity.
We then went to Trinity College, where Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett studied. I went inside the long room in the old library and saw the illuminated edition of the four Gospels, the Book of Kels. The original manuscript was penned in Latin around 800 AD.
We had some lunch and then went on a walk of the City of Dublin. We started a O’Connell Street, the widest street in Europe (at 150 ft wide). We went in a few shops and went to the end of the strip to Parnell Square and Henry Street. A group of us then went to a few bars (it’s legal for me to drink here, but it violates CHCA school policy). We went to Captain America and Mulligan and Haines bars and I had my first Guinness beer… in Dublin, Ireland.
