Monday (6/18)
I had an early meeting at TruSense and we ended up needing brake pads on the van at the last minute. This caused us to leave around 12:45p. The drive was good until on I-65S in Kentucky we saw that the interstate is closed all directions near Bowling Green due to a major accident. This routed us way out of the way so we ended up hitting Nashville traffic right at 5p central time. Read more
We took Briley Pkwy (good local knowledge I had) but we still ended up in a standstill in Franklin, TN due to lane closures. We then continued into Alabama and got a bite to eat. Then arrived into Destin, FL around 1a CST. (We did gain an hour as it is Central time.)
Tuesday (6/19)
We Got going at around 10a, and decided to take a long walk down the beach. After a couple miles, we saw a quaint little restraurant called the BackPorch, so we decided to have lunch there. Neat little place on the beach. We then headed back down the beach where Heather and Tay stayed, and the rest of us went to the pool. Trev, Tess and I then went to the super Walmart to get some groceries. That place was practically bare. The shelves were close to empty so we just got the essentials. I really couldn’t believe how that place looked. Mom then made dinner for us and we headed over to The Track to play putt putt. Cool breeze as temperature dropped. We then came back to the condo and hung out until bedtime.
Wednesday (6/20)
We got up and saw that mom and Tess had picked up Krispy Kreme for us. Mom and Tess then headed to the beach, followed soon by the rest of us. The temperature in the Gulf was perfect so we hung out at the beach and played in the water most of the afternoon. Then we drove to the HarborWalk village to check it out. Walked around a bit and had lunch at Harry T’s restaurant overlooking the water. We then had some sweets at The Fudgery. We came back and rested a bit and then headed back out to the beach later in the evening. For dinner we took a short drive down to SunDestin and ate at Grimaldi’s.
Thursday (6/21)
This morning the others slept in a bit and Tess and I made breakfast. We then headed to the beach again for the day. Played frisbee in the water and a great breeze to keep us cool. We then walked to the souvenir shops and had ice cream at The Cone. Came back and grilled out burgers on the grills by the pool which was really nice. We then all went back to beach. I set my chair at the break and almost fell asleep. When I woke up, I had about 5 pounds of sand that had come up the bottom of my shorts. Later in the evening, we all went back to the condo and everyone hung out while I worked.
Friday (6/22)
We got up around 7:30 to walk over to the Pancakery by 8 as that is when we were told it got really busy. Trev stayed in bed. After a full breakfast, we spent most of the rest of the morning and early afternoon in the condo resting in the AC. The temperature in mid day was 90+. We then headed out to the beach again. Had a very late lunch and then walked back to the shops. We got dinner at a cool seafood place named Blalocks which was by the shops. We ordered fresh shrimp from the gulf and crab legs with red potatoes. It was a storefront, but they steam the food and prepare it for you. Really good food and half price of a restaurant. We then headed back and played some games and turned in since we leave early tomorrow. .
Saturday (6/23)
We left Destin around 8:30a and arrived home around 11:40p. (lost an hour). Great place but not really easy to get to, so I would fly next time. For that length of drive, I prefer AMI.
