We all got up around 7:15a and were out the door across the street to the YellowStone River. The entrance is literally across the driveway, but it’s a long driveway so we drove down. After a couple hours, we realized the river was too muddy from the storms the night before. We decided to go check out the Stillwater River which runs next to the lodge owners (Jerry & Sue) house just outside of Columbus. Read more
Their home backs right up to the Stillwater River. It was absolutely beautiful. When we arrived, I walked down by the side yard and Jerry proceeded to get out of the jacuzzi in his birthday suit while talking on the phone. Just basically acted like I wasn’t there other than a little nod. It’s a free spirit out here in Montana. We found a place to the right of their house to fish, but the rafts started coming down and it affected fishing. We then just watched the people in the raft start cliff jumping into the water. Time to find a new spot tomorrow. Wick made us up some brats for dinner. We were supposed to have Wick’s famous Dutch over firepit baked beans, but he slightly overcooked them again, as you can see in the slideshow photo. The next morning we woke up to breakfast prepared by Tim and Chris. Later Wick and I hung at the lodge while the others scouted a new river location up north for afternoon fishing today. We had planned to sync up with them, but they sent a text they were going further north and were going to be gone all day, but we never received the text. Wick and I mostly worked throughout the day and then went to the Montana Brewing Company in Billings for dinner around 7p. We invited the others, but they had a pretty lengthy drive to join us. Wick that there was no chance they would join us, so we made a bet. I won the $10 bet.
