We left our house at 5a and picked up Tessa’s friend, Brooklyn and headed south for Florida. There were really bad storms last night with tornado warnings so I wasn’t sure what type of weather I was going to hit on the way. It rained all the way to Knoxville but then began to let up. Read more
Around 11a, we decided to take a pit stop at Chickamauga National Military Park outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee. This is the site of 2 Civil War battles, and there is a 8 mile loop to drive around the area. We then took the short drive over to Lookout Mountain Battlefield at Point Park for some amazing views overlooking the city and grounds were the battles were fought.
We then continued south and were able to avoid most traffic in Atlanta and actually got through it by 315 or so. Tessa’s friend, Brooklyn kept saying that we needed to stop at some place named Buc-ee’s. We finally found one just south of Macon, GA and fueled up. It is a HUGE gas station with like 50 gas pumps and a store that has literally everything you may need. They were even cooking fresh bar-bq in the middle of the store.
Since we couldn’t get in our resort until Friday afternoon, we decided to take I-10E to the Florida east coast and stayed overnight in Daytona Beach at a place right on the beach. Picked up Fratelli’s pizza (pretty good thin crust pizza) and then turned in.
