We planned to get up around 7am and be at The Boatyard in Barbados by 8a, but we didn’t wake up until after 8a. Read more
Barbados (video) initially gave me the impression of Hotel Rwanda. There were armed people visible throughout the pier, and a lot of camouflage. The pier was really long and we have to take a shuttle from the ship.
We got a taxi for $5 per person for the drive over to The Boatyard, which is a place I researched and was excited about going to. When we got there, the rules all changed. Even though their website says the $20US entrance fee is used as a minimal food purchase, they stated it was the entrance fee and no food/drink is included. This caused us to walk next door to a public beach where we learned from the locals that the Boatyard had been having a lot of issues lately. Mistreating tourist, etc. We made the right decision to not go there.
We ending up walking down the beach to try to find where we can do paddleboarding. We got to a section of the beach where we rented chairs, paddleboats, jet ski’s, etc. After the initial glitch at The Boatyard, it turned out to be a great day at the beach. This beach was by far the prettiest we had visited during the cruise. The water was the blue you only see in pictures.
Tay and Trevor were kings of the paddleboards, and I was the worst. Mom had Tess on her board, so we can’t really blame her challenges of standing up. Every time I tried to stand up, I flipped the board. They told me it was harder for taller people, and it certainly was.
We went back to the boat and then got ready for dinner
Kids had a dance and I watched March Madness a bit with Heather.
