About Biscayne National Park
Biscayne National Park is located 21 miles east of the Everglades National Park in Southern Florida. It was established in 1968 as a National Monument, but in 1980 it was enlarged 173,000 acres and designated a National Park.
The primary purpose of the park is to protect a rare combination of terrestrial and undersea life, although it was also to preserve an outstanding spot for water recreation and relaxation. In most parks land dominates the surroundings, but Biscayne is primarily water.
