Planned to be kind of a down day, but thoughts of visiting YellowStone National Park. We didn’t leave the house until after 12p. Dave/Chris went fishing in Red Lodge/Rock Canyon, and the rest of us went to Columbus where Dean bought a new 4 weight rod. We also stopped by the New Atlas bar where some of the guys stopped earlier in the week. It was a really cool bar from over 100 years ago. Full of mounted animals, and every six feet of the bar had a spitune. Something literally from the old west. Read more
After leaving Eastbay Fly Shop, we met up with Dave/Chris in Red River at an antique gun store. It was a cool store. Grabbed a quick bite and then Todd wanted us to drive the Beartooth Parkway because he had never been and thought it would be a fun drive. Turns out, Todd (and Tim since he wasn’t here last year) were the only ones who hadn’t seen the scenic drive. It is actually route 212 and it is the route I took the guys last year on our way to YellowStone National Park.
The drive was once again awesome. We stopped several times, and one time Todd and the others stood on a glacier. Looked too dangerous to me, so I stayed safe. We then continued into YellowStone National Park as Tim had never been to the park. We knew we weren’t going to be able to see much as it was getting late, but Tim got to experience all the Bison in Lamar Valley, and a few other sites before we stopped in Mammoth Hot Springs. This year we drove up to the overlook to get a top view of the salt formations. The drive was 1 way up and back, and the drive back was more scenic than the drive in.
It was getting dark so we exited through Mammoth Hot Springs and passed through the Roosevelt Arch on the way to Livingston. Got on 90E and headed back to Billings. The guys and I had fun jamming 80’s music on the way back and trying to find songs Dean can add to his band’s playlist. New sound check – Chaka Chaka Chaka, Chaka Khan…
