The kids and I got up and took the short walk over to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. It is a truly spectacular place. I have been here previously for conferences, but was really looking forward to exploring the area. It did not disappoint at all. We began our day walking over to Federal Hill Park. This is a cool little park with swingsets, and benches that overlook all of the Inner Harbor. Read more
After walking around the park and the kids running up and down the hills, we walked to the other side of the harbor and had lunch at Shake Shack. It was a decent burger, but very small shakes. A bit pricey for what you get. However, the place is near the Hard Rock Cafe and a great place to people watch.
We then began the couple mile hike to the Ft McHenry National Site. On the way, we walked past million dollar condos that surrounded the harbor. One we walked by (The Ritz Carlton Estates) had a guard shack. The area seemed really nice so that was a bit surprising to us. Since Apple’s walking GPS isn’t ready for primetime yet (I have learned this from other big cities), we ended up walking about 30 min roundtrip out of the way and ended up at a little area called McHenry Row. We made the best of it by sitting down and grabbing a beverage. The great things about our travels is we really have no schedule, so contingencies are the norm.
We soon arrived at the fort. Pretty neat place. We walked around and toured it a bit, got a few pictures, and then called for an Uber to take us back. We were not up for the walk back, and am sure we will pay for the decision to walk to the ft tomorrow when we are walking around DC all day.
We got back to the hotel and got some r&r. We had been on the go all day, so this was welcomed by all of us. Around 6:15p, Trevor went with me to pick up Brody from his “country club”, and then we met up with mom.
We all walked back to the Inner Harbor and Tess and mom went to Phillips Seafood for dinner, while the kids and I went next door to Dick’s Last Resort. If you don’t know this place, they are known for rude waiters who make funny paper hats and put them on you during dinner. The first hat was for Trevor and read “Afraid of Girls”. We were all laughing hysterially. Tay was next and hers read “Pain in the A$$, and Kelsey’s wasn’t as good as it read “Leaves for Bible Camp next week”. We all enjoyed dinner, and then turned in for the night.
