Below was our route for today.
We started early around 6:30a for the 3.5 hour drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park in Maine. When we arrived at Acadia, we went to the visitor center to get the low down and purchased our hiking stick medallions. We have medallions from about 30 parks now. Read more
Our first stop was to head to the top of Cadillac Mountain. What a magnificent view. Heather and I thought it reminded us of the top of Haleakula volcano in Maui. You can literally see for days. The kids enjoyed running up and down the rocks to view each side of the mountain. Trevor gave mom a minor heart attack when he ran down the face of a steep bank of rocks. To his benefit, he made it down without falling off and unscathed.
We then started the 27 mile loop road around all of Acadia Park. We parked at Sands Beach and started the 2 mile hike on Ocean Path. The path was really cool because it had several smaller paths that led down to the ocean and closer to the rocks. On our way back, we made our way all the way down the rocks to the ocean (Tess too!).
After the long walk, we were quite exhausted so we headed over to Jordan Pond Restaurant to grab some drinks. When we got there, we decided to stay and sit on the picnic tables in the backyard overlooking the pond and “the bubbles” and have some dessert. The bubbles are the two mountains in the pictures below just beyond the pond. The breeze off the pond was great, and it really was a neat little place to grab a quick bite.
We then headed down to Bar Harbor to get a few shirts and souvenirs. We could have stayed in Bar Harbor overnight, but knew we had a long drive to Ben & Jerry’s factory in Waterbury, VT the next day. So we decided to load up and head west and we ended up stopping in Wilton, ME for the evening.
