We arrived at 1:25 on Friday afternoon and took a cab ($61) to the Sundial Beach & Golf Resort (about a 45 minute ride). The resort has several buildings situated on the gulf of Mexico. Read more
There are 3 pools, several restaurants and activity rentals (bikes, kayaks, floats etc.)We walked the beach looking for shells and admiring the beautiful green water (we were told the water was already 85 degrees). Trent decided to get in the water while I baked a little bit in the sun. We then went back to our villa for a couples massage. After trying to determine where we should have dinner, we heard about the Timbers seafood restaurant which was highly recommended. We decided to take a 3 mile stroll to dinner. There are bike paths all over the island, with many preserved nature areas, so it was really a nice walk. Dinner at the Timbers seafood restaurant (which is a seafood market by day), was good (crabcake and bbq shrimp skewer appetizers, king crab legs and blackened grouper with thai chili sauce entrees). We opted for a cab ride back since it was dark ($10 for a 3 mile cab ride). Watched a little tv and turned in.
On Saturday, we woke up and walked the beach looking for shells. Laying on the beach and relaxing soon bored Trent so we went to the pool. For lunch, we ordered wings and frozen drinks at the pool bar, which were awesome. In the afternoon, we rented bikes from the hotel ($20/day) and explored the island. You definitely need bikes here to get around as it is a bit spread out to walk everywhere. We checked out the shops. There are a couple of cute shopping centers (one was Periwinkle place). We rode down to the end of the island to get ice cream at Pinocchios. We had the wedding bells and the dirty sand dollar flavors which were both delicious. Not far from there was the light house, so we rode the rest of the way there. For supper we ordered pizza from Island Pizza which was good, and Huge slices. Started to rain a little bit so we hung out in the villa.
Since Heather has blogged the first few days, I will take over for today. We woke up early and hopped on our bikes and rode to breakfast at the Island Cow. The place was really neat, and had decent food. We left Island Cow, and turned our bikes in and headed for the beach. The skies looked really dark, but the rain never ended up coming. Our transportation picked us up at 12:30 and we headed to the airport.
PLEASE NOTE – This was just a little getaway for Trent and I. The kids did not join us on this trip.
