We left the house around 6:30a for the short 3+ hour drive to Port Clinton to get our ferry over to the island. Although the forecast was great, as soon as we pulled in the parking lot, the rain began. We decided to move up our ferry time and grabbed the bikes and headed to the ferry. The rain stayed away until half way into the 30 min boat ride.
Arriving at the island, we grabbed our bikes and headed to the resort to drop off our backpacks since our room wasn’t going to be ready. This is the first time we all traveled with just backpacks and no suitcases since it was easier on our bikes. I was surprised how much we could get in the backpacks along with the laptops.
We dropped off our backpacks and then rode down to the Boardwalk for lunch. The rain starting coming down, so we hung out in their a bit and actually taught Tessa how to play blackjack to pass the time. The lobster bisque was the crowd favorite here. Since the rain has stopped, we headed over to Perry Monument to check it out. At this time, mom had to go back for a business call, so Tessa and I rode around exploring the island.
We got in our room a few hours early, and due to the large lunch, we all took a small nap. After the nap, we all rode the 2 mile ride to the Put-in-Bay sign. The island is only 3 miles long by 2 miles wide, so the bikes are a perfect way to travel. There are A LOT of golf carts too, but there are paths they cannot access that we can on bike.
After taking some photos at the sign and skipping some rocks in the warm lake, we rode back towards the downtown. We stopped at Biergarten but it wasn’t open yet. We then dropped our bikes off for the night at the resort and explored the downtown area on foot. We ended up having dinner at The Reel Bar. (across from the firetruck bar.)
After dinner we walked back down by Perry’s Monument and had ice cream at The Dairy Isle. A full day in Put-in-Bay.
Tuesday
We got up and headed over to Pasquales for a late breakfast. Afterwards we decided to rent a golf cart for the afternoon so we could explore the whole island. We literally went everywhere north, south, east, and west.
Afterwards we went back to the resort to swim and let the ladies soak up some rays from the awesome weather. The beer rep for Casamigos was at the bar, so we got free drinks for a good amount of time.
For dinner, we elected to go with pizza from the Put-in-Bay staple – Frostys! The reviews were so mixed on the quality of the pizza. Most said it is better when you are drunk, or seasick from a day on the water. I will just say that it was decent pizza for an island. After dinner, mom & Tessa walked around while I went back and had some work calls.
Wednesday
Most of today was spent at the pool just relaxing before we headed over to the ferry back to Port Clinton. A nice little getaway!
